Kyiv,22August:Francis O’Donnell,UN System Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine met students-volunteers of the University of Oxford (UK) who arrived to Ukraine in line with Oxford Volunteers for Chornobyl Scheme. The goal of their visit was to support the development of youth communities at the affected areas.
Nine students-volunteers from the University of Oxford have been welcomed by four Chornobyl-affected communities, that belong to third and forth zone of radioactive contamination in Chernigiv oblast.
Volunteers are participating at Oxford Volunteers for Chornobyl scheme which is organised for the second year in raw by UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme, National university “Kyiv-Mohyla academy” and the Oxford University Ukrainian Society. Participants, young people from the University of Oxford (UK) and the National university of “Kyiv-Mohyla academy” (Ukraine), will spend three weeks from 3rd to 23rd of August supporting community development process at the Chornobyl-affected area.
23 of May, the International Green Tourism Forum took place in Ethno-household “Khata Savky” in Vyshgorod rayon, Kyiv oblast. The goal of the Forum is to promote opportunities of development of green tourism in Ukraine. The Forum’s participants included representatives from Ukraine as well as from Italy, Belorussia, Latvia and etc.
25 April 2008— At a high-level meeting of UN agencies convened today to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear accident on 26 April 1986, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented a draft “action plan” covering UN work on Chornobyl until 2016. Preparation of the plan was mandated by a 2007 General Assembly resolution, which proclaimed 2006-2016 the Decade of Recovery and Sustainable Development of areas affected by Chornobyl. The aim of the Decade is to promote a “return to normal life” for the region. After review by the International Atomic Energy Agency, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and other agencies involved in recovery efforts, the UN action plan will be approved later this year.
25th of April at 8 pm, at the St. Antony’s College, Nissan Lecture Theatre Oxford University Ukrainian Society will show the documentary “Chornobyl: The Survivors” to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear accident on”.
11 April Pavlo Zamostyan, UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme Project Manager has made a presentation at the symposium “Chornobyl Recovery and Japan”. Symposium took place in Ukrainian-Japan Cultural Centre during “Chornobyl Week”.
2 April training for school teachers on teaching safety live at the Chornobyl affected areas took place. Trening was organized by Ivankiv Community Development Centre with the support of Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme, UNDP (CRDP) experts.

Local authorities, mass-media, NGO representatives and wide public are invited to participate in international internet conference “Chornobyl: Past, Present and Future” that will be conducted by Ministry of Emergency in Ukraine jointly with Belorussian department of Russian-Belorussian Chornobyl accident informational centre to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of Chornobyl accident.
Громадські слухання організовані організаціями громад Надія та Струмок за підтримки сільського голови Скуратівського Віктора Вікторовича.
Усі жителі села спершу збиралися у комітети по вулицях, а потім обговорили проблеми та намітили стратегічний план розвитку усього населеного пункту. Наслідком громадських слухань стала резолюція в котрій виважено намічена стратегія розвитку і прописані конкретні завдання сільським депутатам та сільському голові. Усі залишилися задоволені співпрацьою та прийняли рішення проводити такі заходи двічі на рік.
У Центрі соціально-психологічної реабілітації населення та інформування щодо ліквідації наслідків Чорнобильської катастрофи м. Коростень проведено семінар для вчителів загальноосвітніх шкіл.
Інформування щодо наслідків Чорнобильської катастрофи залишається найефективнішим методом подолання соціально-психологічних проблем населення відзначається у нещодавній резолюції ООН від 20 листопада 2007 року. Саме тому інформування населення є одним з пріоритетів Чорнобильської програми відродження та розвитку ПРООН.
The Government of Japan has provided a grant, amounting to 161,769 hryvnias, to reconstruct the water supply systems in Lystvyn Village in Ovruch District of Zhytomyr Region. The grant contract was signed between H.E. Mr. Mutsuo MABUCHI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine and Ms. Valentyna RADKEVYCH, Head of the Association of Community “Zhytychi” today at the Embassy of Japan in Kyiv.
5 December 2007 an opening ceremony of kindergarten in srs. Udryck took place. Group of 18 children of the age 3-6 years plus employment of 5 people became the result of project implemented by Community Organization of srs. Udryck – “Dzherelo (Spring)”. Community organization themselves with the support of Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme and local authorities renewed a building for kindergarten that stayed empty before.
On 4 December 2007, the Launching Conference of the “Community based approach to local development” Project took place in the Business and Cultural Cooperation Centre of Kyiv's “Ukrainian House”. The Project is financed by the European Commission and co-financed and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine.
Polish, Ukrainian and German scientists and radiation specialists published a book “Chernobyl Revisited. Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” in order to inform the European civil society, NGOs, international organization and governmental authorities on nuclear safety and the ways of the mitigation of Chernobyl catastrophe consequences. The Publication is a result of cooperation between the UNDP-led Chernobyl Recovery and Development Programme and the Gorzow High School of Business ( Poland).
