Friendly Vegetables! Lois Bonduelle Fondation supports health nutrition at Chornobyl-affected areas of Rivne oblast

Louis Bonduelle Fondation has supported the project “Friendly Vegetables!” developed by the UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme (CRDP). The Project will apply new approach for information provision on safe and healthy nutrition. School-children will learn receipts on how to cook local products and will participate in cooking competition. During Cuisine trainings and competitions they will receive recommendations by experts on diet.

radiological situation at the affected territories significantly improved due to physical processes of radioactive decay and count-measures application. At the moment the risk of the internal irradiation mainly results from the consumption of mushrooms and berries. Unfortunately, not all target groups, and especially youth are aware about these risks. As result after the Chornobyl accident people are highly disturbed about their state of health and the state of the health of their children. The local population’s awareness about other aspects of safe and healthy nutrition remains very low.

It is expected that as result of the project about 2000 school children of Rivne oblast would be educated on healthy and safe nutrition, focusing on promotion of processing and consumption of clean local planted vegetables. Safe diet will reduce the risk of internal irradiation of the local population
